LEXUS RX
2016 – Present
The third generation RX was already looking outdated after
eight years of production. Luckily, the
automaker prepared an all new one for 2016 - the ultra stylish fourth
generation Lexus RX.
Design wise, the 2016 RX is influenced by its little brother, the NX, but it does have some of its own features, such as a different waistline, a chrome piece surrounding the side windows, a floating roof and other sharp design cues.
The sporty exterior is matched by the cockpit design which appears to be more driver-focused than ever. Every bit has been reshaped to bring a new level of luxury and comfort. New features include a large head-up display, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, Pre-Collision System and more.
Mechanically, the chassis has been strengthened, the engine got re-tuned and more driving aids have been added, such as Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management, Adaptive Variable Suspension, Adaptive High-Beam System, Blind Spot Monitoring and Panoramic View Monitor.

Lexus
has introduced the refreshed 2013 RX crossover. The biggest cosmetic change is
the new spindle grille, borrowed from the brand new GS sedan and giving the
aging RX design, which debuted in 2009, a sportier look.

The third
generation Lexus RX came out at the Los Angeles Auto Show held in 2008, with
the first concept model unveiled by the parent company in 2007 at the same
event. Assembled at two Lexus factories, Ontario, Canada and
Kyushu, Japan, the new RX is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine capable of
developing a maximum power of 275 hp. According to figures provided by the car
manufacturer, the new RX is due to reach mass production in February 2009 for
the United States and in mid-2009 for the European, Japanese and other
countries. In November 2008, Lexus launched at the Greater Los Angeles Auto
Show the hybrid version of the RX which will have the same 3.5-liter V6 engine,
but will be named RX 450h. Sales of the RX hybrid will begin in mid 2009 for
the US and Japanese markets.

The
second generation of the Lexus RX was unveiled in January of 2003. it featured a more streamlined body. This time around,
some of the body features were shared with the Highlander SUV. Other than that,
not much was changed under the hood with the same engines and drivetrain
combinations. The only difference was the introduction of a 5 speed automatic
gearbox which used paddle shifting. This second generation managed to continue
the success of the original car, selling over 108,000 units just in 2006, the
biggest selling luxury vehicle in the US.

Also
known as the Harrier in Japan, the RX is a mid-size crossover SUV, a luxury
model to be precise, one of the first actually which has since spawned similar
versions from other automakers. It's been
thought to merge the characteristics of an SUV, wagon and a sedan. However,
Lexus did not build this model from scratch as it was partly based on the same
platform as the Toyota Camry. The model was a success on both sides of the
Pacific, which made Lexus add more options in 2001.
